FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 5, 2012
Cleveland, Ohio— To ensure the safety of students and staff at Almira School, Cleveland Metropolitan School District officials will close the building located at 3575 W. 130th and will begin the process of moving students and staff to the Brooklawn school facility, located at 11801 Worthington Ave.
During a routine inspection of the Nathaniel Hawthorne building, the current swing-site location of Almira students and staff, a custodian noticed that two structural support beams were deteriorating. As a precautionary measure, since the beams support the roof at the PreK-8 school, structural engineers from the Barber & Hoffman Consulting Firm are conducting an on-site survey to make recommendations for future use of the building.
Over the next few days, operations staff of the District will assist in relocation efforts.
Staff and teachers are being informed of the situation and are being briefed on plans to move to the Brooklawn school facility.
Parents are being notified by both a letter home and a telephone message that Almira School will be closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, January 9, 10, and 11 as the school is transitioned to the Brooklawn facility. We expect to resume school on Thursday, January 12.
The Brooklawn school facility is located approximately one mile away from the Nathaniel Hawthorne facility and transportation services for students are being re-routed to the Brooklawn facility.
Parents with questions about transportation during this relocation may call 216.634.7021. For further questions and updates about the relocation of Almira @ Nathaniel Hawthorne School, parents may call 216.574.8378.
