5/27/2011 2:00:00 PMAll-City Musical to perfom "Bubbling Brown Sugar" June 3-5 at Ohio Theatre
For the twelfth consecutive year, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, in
partnership with Great Lakes Theater Festival, The Human Fund, the Musical Theater
Project and PlayhouseSquare will collaborate with Cleveland students, their
teachers and professional theater artists to create the All-City Musical.
Jam, jump and jive to the legendary music that made Harlem swing during its
renaissance in the exuberant musical revue, "Bubbling Brown Sugar." Relive the
exhilarating era of Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and Cab Calloway when memorable
musical classics such as "Take the "A" Train," "St. Louis Blues," "Sweet Georgia
Brown," "Ain't Misbehavin'," "Honeysuckle Rose," "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and
others come to life in a magical journey back through time. Stomp at the Savoy and
kick your heels high again at the Cotton Club to some of the most popular Big Band,
jazz, swing, blues and gospel music of the past 90 years. This celebration of
Harlem's influence on American culture will leave you tapping your toes and
agreeing that, "It Don't Mean a Thing If You Ain't Got That Swing."
